Running red plate at TCK. They have a gear rule of 17 69. The leader had us by 1.8 sec and second had us by 1.2 sec. We wiped three wipes of hbm reaper today. Could over prepping lock a kart down bad enough to do this ? He is using full throttle .... at least he says he is.

Do you have a Mychron 5? If so, you can check when he's dropping throttle and picking it back up. It shows it on the track, shows the location for the event for every lap.

That is the one thing I have not sprung for yet. I have tried to listen to him and it doesn't sound like he is letting out but they are definitely turning more rpm than him. Would over prepping cause him to not be able to build the same amount of rpm on the same gear they are on ?

Yes, but you can’t prove that over prepping is the issue without a Mychron 5. If you want to be competitive that’s the next thing you need to buy. Go to palmetto speed shop and buy their membership along with the Mychon. You’ll save big on the Mychron and get a good discount on everything else they sell.

Based on the amount of wipes we've been wiping a 50/50 mix , hard track and Acroysol on a really gripped up surface , I doubt you were over prepped
Between maximizing momentum and tire sizing is most likely where your getting beat.

Your wiped tire at TCK may have made a difference but surely wasnt the whole problem. A lot with gear rules will grow the tire to maximum, date code with the Reaper makes a difference, some of those tires are just plain faster then others.
Was more than likely a combination of things when off by over a second.

A higher than average engine temperature would indicate a locked down kart..
How was the RPMs?

I'll have to get a tach. I made the foolish decision not to because they are expensive and there is a gear rule

Make sure you have the new(er) Reapers with stiff sidewalls like a Maxxis. The early ones had floppy sidewalls like a Burris.
Make sure you are at maximum tire size allowed for your class. No excuses here.
You may want to run more air (psi) to get more roll speed and then use prep to get the sidebite back to stick in the corners.
You'll definitely want a tach - but that's not costing you any speed at this point with a fixed gear ratio.

Is there a third version of "Reapers" Ken? The ones I've gotten in are very different and took internal prep very differently.

Not that I'm aware of, I thought the same thing until attending the Juniors Johnson memorial race at low country , and spoke directly with Henry about it , and that's when he informed us nothing. Changed other than the stamp and color on the sidewall.
They are doing testing now with the intent of stiffening the sidewall.

There were at least two versions released, or quality control missed something along the way. Spring rates in the right sides were considerably different from the early version to the later one.

That's only because they got ahead of themselves on production and had to store some longer , aging them some makes a big difference.

Give me some well "aged" ones then. Did i prep reapers too hard ? (14) They rolled a lot more like Maxxis than Burris.
I still suspect there was a manufacturing change. We don't see that much difference in sidewalls due to age of the tire in other brands.

I would think the man that pays the manufacturing Co to make the tires would know of and approve any changes .

You would sure hope so. We all know that's not the case with import engines used in karting though.

That's all in Quality Control as well , Some batches of course vary some because of Quality control, but the Recipe is the same .

There was at least 2 versions of the tire, my friend was given tires to test at Hanging Rock, the ones with the colored sidewalls. Terry even put a big post on Facebook after testing.
