Gojo Satoru fought against Sukuna in Shinjuku and fans got to witness an incredibly intense battle that certainly lived up to all expectations. When fans found out that Gojo was the strongest modern sorcerer and that Sukuna was the strongest in history, a battle between these two was already being painted in their minds. In fact, the author fanned the flames as well, by setting up a battle between them that would inevitably happen at some point later down the line when Sukuna would reincarnate. Something similar happened in the Culling Game Arc, when Sukuna took over Megumi's body, and at around the same time, Gojo was freed from the Prison Realm as well. Fans knew that a battle between Gojo and Sukuna would now be illustrated and, eventually, that is what happened.

Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as I live.

The fight between Gojo and Sukuna was excellent. Fans got to see both of these powerful sorcerers strut their stuff, and Gege made it quite clear that both of them were on a completely different level when compared to the others. The normal laws of Jujutsu sorcery simply did not apply to these two monsters, and that is what made this battle incredibly exciting. After multiple domain clashes and moments of domination for both Gojo and Sukuna, eventually, this battle concluded. Unfortunately, despite being at the peak of his powers, Gojo ended up losing his life in an instant when Sukuna learned how to bypass his Infinity, thanks to help from Mahoraga.

Sukuna utilized the World Splitting Dismantle and chopped Gojo's body in half. This is precisely where the battle took a turn for the worse and Gojo ended up losing his life, which was unfortunate. However, a door to Gojo's return was always open and fans were hoping for the strongest to make a comeback before the series ended. Of course, the author went on to confirm that Gojo had died on many occasions. However, in the end, JJK chapter 260 ended up seeing him come back once again, seemingly from the dead.

The Ghost Of Gojo Satoru Returns

Sukuna Saw Gojo's Ghost In JJK Chapter 260

In JJK chapter 260, the story took a very interesting turn as Gojo made his return. The vast majority of the chapter was focused on the fight between Sukuna and the sorcerer duo of Yuji and Todo. First off, fans got to witness Todo's improved Boogie Woogie, which made it almost impossible for Sukuna to fight efficiently against them. Todo showcased why he is a dangerous sorcerer and why, even after losing his limb, he is a worthy opponent for the King of Curses. Meanwhile, Todo's swapping ability allowed Yuji to land another powerful black flash on the King of Curses, and, after that, dig his claws deep into his chest. At this moment, Sukuna certainly took a lot of damage, but not enough to see him lose the battle. In fact, Sukuna is far from losing the battle, as was confirmed by the author in the chapter.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Nobara's Return Is Still Possible

With Todo and Gojo's return, its likely Nobara will also return in JJK.

Sukuna had seen...what his hands had buried. The ghost of the strongest!

The narrator stated that at this moment, Sukuna's cursed energy reserves are similar to that of Yuta, and he can use his reverse cursed technique to restore his burnt-out cursed technique. Essentially, Sukuna can still go on and spam domain expansion, which is exactly what he intended to do. By making the palm sign for his new Malevolent Shrine, Sukuna was about to unleash a domain expansion, when something got his attention. Looking to his left, Sukuna saw Gojo return, standing in front of him like a ghost.

Is Gojo Truly Back?

Is Gojo Really Back Or Is It A Ghost?

Fans did not see much of Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260. Immediately after looking left, Sukuna saw a silhouette in the smoke, and then, the eyes of the strongest. Now, the wording that the narrator chose here is very intriguing, and is what is causing a lot of debate in the fandom. According to the narrator, Sukuna saw the ghost of the one that he buried by himself – the ghost of the strongest. This is what the narrator had to say about Gojo and this is what is leading a lot of fans to believe that the individual in front of Sukuna is not real, but simply a ghost.

Now, the only way to figure out what the truth is is by dissecting the statement in itself. Firstly, the fans need to know whether it is just Sukuna who saw the ghost or if this person is truly present there. The point of view that the fans get in this panel is not Sukuna's. It is a third-person perspective, where fans can see both Sukuna and Yuji at the same time. Fans can also see a silhouette behind them, meaning that whoever this person is, is truly present behind them. This is not something that Sukuna is imagining, to begin with.

The second part is very important. The author mentions that Sukuna is seeing the ghost of the strongest. Now, many fans are taking this literally, and assuming that Sukuna is actually seeing a ghost. However, that might not be the case. This is simply down to the fact that the author is clearly using metaphors here. Fans know that Sukuna did not actually bury Gojo. All he did was chop him in half. The fact that readers need to grasp is that Sukuna burying Gojo is not literal. It is a metaphor that implies that Sukuna killed Gojo himself. Then, it would only make sense for the second half of this statement to be a metaphor as well. Essentially, the ghost of the strongest implies the fact that Gojo has returned from the dead.

Another thing that confirms the fact that Gojo is truly back and not a ghost here is the fact that Sukuna has used a similar term in the battle against Kashimo. When these two fought, Sukuna referred to Kashimo as a ghost as well. Back then, the context was that Kashimo had already died once and returned from the dead, which made him a ghost in Sukuna's eyes. The same logic applies here as well. Sukuna is adamant about the fact that he killed Gojo by himself. However, Gojo being present in front of him is proof of the fact that this individual is a ghost in a metaphorical sense. Simply put, Gojo has returned from the dead and Sukuna is, naturally, going to refer to him as a ghost because he knows that he killed this individual by himself.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261, is set to be May 26, 2024.
