Why is my rank so low in OW2? ›

Overwatch 2 is a very different game, so we applied a formula that gives returning players an opportunity to redefine their rank when they dive into updated Competitive. Most players will find their rank is slightly lower when they start out, as they will be learning new concepts and metas.

Within each rank, there are five skill divisions, numbered from 5 (lowest) to 1 (highest). As you win matches and perform well, you'll earn Skill Rating (SR) points, which will help you progress through the divisions and eventually reach the next rank.

Unlike in previous Overwatch 2 competitive seasons, you won't need to play games to earn a rank again. Instead, you have to complete 10 placement matches every year for each role. As you play each match, the game will predict what rank you'll end up with based on your performance.
